The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board
(JAMB) has said the introduction of the Computer Based Test (CBT) is in
line with its quest to conduct transparent examinations.
In a statement by its public relations officer Fabian Benjamin, JAMB
said the decision to use the Computer Based Test is in response to
demand by Nigerians for a system that is transparent, affordable and
reliable for candidates.
JAMB was reacting to an editorial in the Daily Trust of Monday, 30th
September, 2013 titled: "JAMB Presumptuous Computerization Programme."
The system he said has the prospect of enhancing quality, standard as
well as meets international best practices in the conduct of
examinations.
Benjamin noted that there had always been challenges in conducting examinations in the country and other nations in Africa.
The statement said that the policy had been tested in the last
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) using the Computer
Based Test (CBT) mode and was adjudged to be successful by all
stakeholders and there was no single incidence of system failure or
failure on infrastructure.
